Interlibrary Loan

INTERLIBRARY LOAN POLICY

Interlibrary loan service is offered to all Littleton Public Library cardholders in good standing. Patrons are limited to two interlibrary loan requests at a time. Materials available are limited to books and audio books (reference books, rare books, textbooks, and DVDs are not available through the interlibrary loan system). We cannot request NEW books or audio books published in the last 8 months.

There is no fee for in-state loans. However out-of-state libraries often charge a fee.

The availability of materials is determined by the loaning library. The time to receive requested material varies depending on the item requested and how many libraries own it. Two weeks is an average for materials to arrive but it could be longer. There are no rush requests. If a request is no longer needed, patrons should notify the library so the request can be canceled or the material sent back.

Once the requested material arrives the patron will be notified by phone or email that the material is available for them. Materials will be held for one week and if not picked up will be sent back to the loaning library.

The loan period is 3 weeks from the date received. The loaning library may impose restrictions, such as” in-library-use only” or “no renewals” and these must be adhered to by the patron. Patrons must request renewals at least three days prior to the due date. Renewals are provided at the owning library’s discretion and cannot be guaranteed. We cannot request renewals for items that are already overdue.

Please make every effort to return items by the specified due date. Interlibrary loan service may be limited or suspended for those who abuse the privilege, including those who repeatedly fail to pick up requested material or fail to return materials in a timely manner.

Payment must be made for materials that are lost, damaged, or have accrued fines from the loaning library. No refunds will be made for lost and paid interlibrary loan materials that are subsequently found.
