3D Print Policy

3-D Printing Policy

Littleton Public Library currently owns a 3-D printer, whose primary use is for educational programs with the public.  Library use of the 3-D printer takes priority in all cases, but printing services are available according to the following guidelines and fee structure.

The 3D printer may be used for lawful purposes only. All submitted designs will be reviewed by Library staff before printing. All submitted designs are subject to the provisions of New Hampshire RSA 91-A.

Only designated Library staff members may review and schedule items to be printed. There is no guarantee that a submitted design will be printed. Only designated Library staff will have access to the 3D printer. Users will not be allowed to use the Library’s 3D printer to create material that is:

  • Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or that poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others, or is otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment. (Such use may also violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.)
  • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection. By submitting content or objects, the patron agrees to assume all responsibility for, and shall hold the Library harmless in, all matters related to patented, trademarked, or copyrighted materials.

The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D printer request.

Supervision of the use of the 3D printer by Library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgement, of any unapparent final use of the 3D product, and the Library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof. The Littleton Public Library is not responsible for any damage, loss, or security of data arising from the use of its computers or network, nor for the functionality or quality of content produced on the 3D printer.

Printing is available between 10am and 4pm Tuesday-Friday.  Objects requested to be printed may be no larger than 8 cubic inches.  Prints must be able to be completed in a single session.

To request a print, patron may place a request by email or using the request form on the website.  Patron must supply the .stl file or choose from one of our “desk creature” prints.  After receipt of a file, patron will be contacted with an estimated price for the print.  After approval, the file will be printed on a first come first serve basis.  Patron will be contacted when print is available for pick up.  Payment is due upon pick up.  Item will not be released without payment.

The library charges $1.50 per ounce, rounded up to the nearest whole ounce.  Patron may choose filament color from available supply.
